Physician revenue in 2012 depends on coding. As we look forward and wonder how reimbursement may change, we need to code, bill and collect for services this year. Improving the accuracy of coding decreases compliance risk and can increase revenue. Author of the best-seller, The Field Guide to Physician Coding, 2nd Edition, Betsy Nicoletti will concentrate on the seven keys to coding SUCCESS in 2012. This practical and fast-paced audio conference will get you and your staff members aligned with the necessary steps for successful coding. Why leave money on the table?

Who should attend this audio conference? Administrators, billing managers and physicians, in addition to coders. Managers will be able to apply these concepts when overseeing the key functions. Coding and billing staff will be able to identify key principles and apply these principles to their coding and claim submission. Physicians will have an easy and non-threatening method of getting up to speed on their coding and documentation.

We will review these seven steps to success:

Start with E/M rules
Use modifiers according to the rules
Code correctly in the global period
Capture all charges
Embrace medical necessity
Set up a second set of eyes
Step up diagnosis code accuracy

Betsy Nicoletti will provide a road map for you to improve the accuracy of coding in your practice. Here is a sample of what you’ll learn on March 8:
  • Start with the E/M rules. The answers to most common “What if” and “Can I bill for this” relate to E/M codes. Knowing these rules will increase coding accuracy.
  • Use modifiers according to the rules.
  • Code correctly for services in the global period. Can you be paid separately or is the service part of the global package?
  • Capture all charges, in and out of the office. Know the difference between bundled services and non-covered services and when you can and should bill the patient.
  • Embrace the concept of medical necessity. Medical necessity is like beauty: it is in the eye of the beholder. If the payer doesn’t agree it is medically necessary, the practice won’t be paid.
  • Second set of eyes always help. Set up an internal or external review process to check assumptions and coding accuracy.
  • Step up the accuracy of your diagnosis coding. Risk based contracts, accountable care organizations and ICD-10 all demand it.
